Residents of Oklahoma have been forewarned that winter may get extra cold and harsh; therefore, making it necessary to have extra precautions ready to fight the extreme weather and the hazards that may come along with it. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, along with the National Weather Service and other authorities, are working hand in hand with the city of Shawnee in order to prepare citizens.
“In recent years we’ve experienced winter weather storms, including devastating ice storms and blizzards,” Shawnee Mayor Wes Mainord said. “We all need to be aware of these natural threats we face in our community and take responsibility to make sure we are properly prepared when disaster strikes.”
